Pain Management Injections

Targeted Relief for Chronic Pain

Pain management injections are a powerful tool for diagnosing and treating chronic pain in the spine and joints. By delivering medication directly to the source of the pain, we can often provide significant relief without surgery, allowing you to participate more fully in physical therapy and daily life.

Types of Injections We Offer

Dr. Behrens performs a variety of image-guided injections to ensure precision and effectiveness:

  • Epidural Steroid Injections: Used to treat back and leg pain caused by herniated discs or spinal stenosis. A potent anti-inflammatory is injected into the epidural space around the spinal nerves.
  • Facet Joint Injections: Targeting the small joints in the back of the spine that can cause arthritis pain.
  • Joint Injections (Knee, Hip, Shoulder): Corticosteroids can reduce inflammation in arthritic joints, providing relief that can last for months.
  • Viscosupplementation: Also known as "gel injections," this involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the knee to lubricate the joint and cushion the bones.

What to Expect

Most injections are quick, outpatient procedures performed in our office or a surgery center. We use local anesthesia to numb the skin, so discomfort is minimal. While some patients experience immediate relief, it may take a few days for the medication to take full effect.
